A. Description of Responsibilities / Key Achievements

Responsibilities

  • Research Ethics & Audit Office
    • Supports and supervises ethical research conduct to establish a sound research culture and advance research administration
    • Operation of the Research Ethics Integrity Committee (investigation of research misconduct, research ethics training, etc.)
    • Operation of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

Key Achievements

  • Research Ethics Integrity Committee
    • Continuous operation of the Research Whistleblower Portal (submission of reports, notifications, etc.)
    • Execution of research misconduct investigations and audits
      • Conducting preliminary reviews, full investigations, and final judgments
      • Implementation of follow-up measures based on investigation outcomes (e.g., notifying academic journals)
      • Increasing the proportion of external members in the investigation committee (over 30%)
    • Implementation of research ethics education for university members
      • Orientation for newly appointed faculty (e.g., during faculty onboarding programs)
      • Online training via institutions such as KIRD
      • Collaboration with external expert institutions such as NRF and University Research Ethics Council (site tours, on-campus programs)
    • Operation of iThenticate for similarity checking of international academic papers
    • Monthly issuance of the Research Ethics and Audit Office Bulletin (highlighting research ethics cases and issues)
  • IRB & IACUC
    • Holding regular meetings (once or twice a month)
      • Review and support of research projects involving human and animal subjects
      • Pre-review by expert members of each committee
    • Operation of the R-Bay integrated online system (enabling continuous application reviews)
    • Provision of ongoing online training in life and animal ethics
    • Implementation of post-approval monitoring by IACUC (once a year)
